Morning Musume’s rivals are Dream Morning Musume?

On February 27th, Morning Musume’s Takahashi Ai and Michishige Sayumi attended a sales commemoration and handshake event for their new photobook, “Rival Survival”. This photobook is from their 2011 Fall tour, where 6th generation member, Kamei Eri, and 8th generation exchange students, Jun Jun and Lin Lin, graduated from the group. The book also includes performances from other places, backstage pictures, and an interview with the members.

Since the title of their photobook is “Rival Survival”, the press asked them who the rivals of the revamped Morning Musume were. Both girls declared together, “Dream Morning Musume”; the group with former Morning Musume members. The average age of Morning Musume’s current lineup is 17, and Michishige laughed, “It’s like the age difference between a mother and child. It’s scary in a good way. It makes me nervous, or perhaps I should say, it sends chills down my spine.”.

This book focuses heavily on the graduation of Kamei, Jun Jun, and Lin Lin, but the next person in line to graduate is actually Morning Musume’s leader, Takahashi Ai; she will be graduating from the group next fall. Takahashi sighed, “My viewpoint has changed. The countdown has started and I wonder how much I can teach the new members in the limited time I have left. I’m a bit troubled”. She has also been thinking about different things to do after she’s graduated, “I’ve decided to do musicals, so I want to take lessons in order to head towards that goal.”

Michishige then commented on the cover of the new photobook, “It’s rare that I’m center on front covers, so I like this. It feels like a Michishige Sayumi photobook, and I thought ‘finally, my time has come!’”. Michishige is Takahashi’s junior, so she praised her, “I usually say this, but you’re really reliable. I think Ai-chan is really awesome and I’m glad to be here during Ai-chan’s time as a leader. Even those who look away, I want you all to see how great Ai-chan is.” Lastly, Michishige displayed her narcissistic character, “I put myself at number one, but Ai-chan is definitely number two!”

The band Funky Monkey Babys also made a surprise appearance during the special stage and performed their upcoming single, “Runway☆Beat“, which will be the theme song of the movie.

Based on a popular mobile novel, the movie is about the young transfer student, Mizorogi “Beat” Biito (Seto), and his incredible talent as a designer. He starts to organize a fashion show for the upcoming cultural fashion show, and during the process he is able to unite all the different personalities of his new classmates.

All those scenes are even in 3D! It is going to feel like being at an actual fashion show like today, so definitely look forward to this movie!”

The Kobe Collection is going to have another spectacular show in Tokyo on March 12th.

SECRET says goodbye on Inkigayo + details on Ji Eun’s solo debut

After promoting for close to two months, the SECRET girls will draw a close to their ‘Shy Boy‘ promotions on today’s SBS’s “Inkigayo” episode.

The girls attained remarkable achievements this time around, with a three week hit on KBS’s “Music Bank“, a Mutizen win on SBS’s “Inkigayo,” and a win from “M! Countdown“. Unlike most songs which lose popularity towards the end of a promotion cycle, SECRET’s “Shy Boy” is still doing strong on the charts, demonstrating the song’s undeniable power.

Their representative said, “We do believe that ‘Shy Boy’’s chart ranking has a significant meaning, as it slowly climbed the charts and maintained its position there for a long time. Unlike ‘Magic‘ and ‘Madonna,’ both of which peaked at the top quickly and fell off the charts just as fast, ‘Shy Boy’ worked its way up to the top with its own power of music. It’s one of the reasons we believe that the song is so loved among the public.”

Fans of SECRET need not wait long as member, Ji Eun is set to release her solo single on March 3rd and begin promotions subsequently. Ji Eun’s solo will be a venture outside of the group’s recent success.

The representative revealed, “Ji Eun’s solo will be 180 degrees different in comparison to SECRET’s standard style. It’ll be a genre and color that not anyone could ever anticipate. The concept itself is strong as well.”

Wasao, the movie star dog, set to make music debut

Wasao, the famous “busa-kawaii” (ugly-cute) Akita from Aomori, will be hitting the silver screen when his film ‘Wasao’ premiers on March 5th (directed by Nishiki Yoshinari). But it is now confirmed that Wasao will also be making waves in the musical world.

Singer and actress Yakushimaru Hiroko (46) sings the movie’s theme, “Bokura no takaramono“, marking 22 years since her last theme song effort. However, Wasao will “sing” his own version of the song: with the help of advanced computer techniques, a recording of his bark will be put to the tune’s melody.

For the entire shoot, which started last September and lasted about a month, the staff stuck closely to Wasao at all times. During a break in the 55-hour filming, they coaxed owner Kikutani Setsuko (67) into taking Wasao on a walk, during which time they managed to capture a single howl on tape. It was the only howl they had heard up to that point, and it would be the last. Because the sound was never included in the film, this single bark – which has now been transformed into “song” – should be considered precious.

A Chaku Uta version of Wasao’s song will go on sale on February 28th, and part of the proceeds will go to UNESCO Japan, which currently employs Wasao as a “doggy ambassador”.
